BUSINESSES in South Devon are being asked to take part in a survey to evaluate the state of the economy in the Bay.

The sixth consecutive autumn Business Barometer questionnaire includes key questions on the market trends and economic conditions affecting businesses, and offering businesses the chance to have their say on the update of the Torbay Economic Strategy.

Feedback received through the questionnaire also plays a vital part in shaping the business services Torbay Development Agency provides.

Results from previous surveys indicated that companies were unsure of the financial options available to them, and were also interested in skills, training and recruiting.

As a result the TDA has partnered with local banks to organise the Access to Finance events to clarify funding options for local businesses.

TDA is also partnering with the Torbay and South Devon Employment and Skills Board to organise the Recruit Right, First Time event on November 30, designed to make businesses aware of the range of employment solutions they can take advantage of to recruit the right staff.

Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver, said: "It is important we gain valuable feedback from the business community. I invite all Torbay businesses to complete the Business Barometer survey to help the TDA build a clear picture of the current local economy and the main issues and opportunities that can be addressed to help businesses survive prosper and grow."

Torbay Development Agency chief executive, Steve Parrock, said: "The Business Barometer is a valuable tool to help TDA accurately evaluate the economical environment in the Bay. It enables us to address the key issues and priorities in these challenging times.

"We are committed to improving the economy through regeneration, attracting investment and developing a business-friendly location for people to live, work, visit and invest in.

"The more information we can gather about the specific needs of Torbay businesses, the better placed we will be to identify the main priorities and opportunities that we can explore as the economic development company for Torbay"

The autumn 2012 Business Barometer questionnaire, which takes no longer than 10 minutes to fill out, can be accessed by visiting http://www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk/businessbarometer.

The survey closes on December 6.
