YOUNGSTERS have created a mural to brighten up Torbay Hospital.

The Sherwell Valley Primary School, Torquay, students have created a handprint mural for the CT waiting area of the radiology department.

It is part of a degree project and designed by Lynn Gillham, a clerical officer in the radiology department.

The mural features trees representing each season of the year with the children's hand prints making up the leaves on each tree. Children of staff working in the department also added their handprints to the artwork which stretches around the waiting area.

Lynn said: "I would like to thank the pupils for doing such an enthusiastic and lovely job of brightening up our waiting area.

"The mural looks beautiful and is greatly appreciated by patients, visitors and staff as they wait in or pass by the area."

Rachael Thatcher, teacher and arts co-ordinator at the school, said the children were delighted to take part.

She said: "Our school is a great supporter of the arts and it's fantastic to be able to share this within the local community.

"The school is very proud of the pupils' achievements in the creative field, and this artwork stands as a testament to the children's hard work."
