WHAT sets Bridge Terrace apart from many other properties in Totnes is its position alongside the banks of the Dart and within walking distance of the town's shops and restaurants, and its view of Vire Island next to the river.
Not quite an island, Vire Island was opened as a pleasure park in Victorian times and renamed in 1971 when the town was twinned with Vire, in Normandy. It's now a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the town where one can sit on the grass by the water or stroll beneath the deciduous trees, which can be a spectacular sight set against the river, especially in the autumn.
So overlooking this scene, which changes through the seasons, is Bridge Terrace, built in 2000 and one of Totnes' most sought after developments. Number 5, "a bright, spacious apartment, probably has one the best views" says Luscombe Maye's Piers Whiting, "as it's within the corner of the building closest to the town's old bridge". The flat is in excellent condition and has high quality fixtures and fittings and large double glazed sash windows, not least in the big living room, which faces south and overlooks the river. There's a well-equipped kitchen/dining room, a hall large enough to double as a study and two double bedrooms, one with its own bathroom.
So often overlooked, the communal areas are maintained to a high standard. There is gated access to a secure undercover parking area, where a dedicated parking space is included, close to the lift. There's also a staircase and a pleasant private riverside promenade alongside the building.
Luscombe Maye's Totnes office is asking £325,000 (01803 869920).
