A SUMMER downpour did little to deter 68 golfers from teeing off at the Rotary Club's second charity golf day of the year.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Preston (Torbay) at the Dainton Park Golf Club, the event raised £900 on the day for local charities.

Terry Moylan of the Rotary Club said: "We have quite a large contingent of golf players in the rotary club so it is a great way of raising money for our charities."

Money raised on the day is to be split between Coast Watch and Torbay Lifeboats, who will each receive £400, while the remainder will go to the Rotary Club's charity to support other local worthwhile causes.

President of the Rotary Club of Preston (Torbay) Tony Barratt expressed his thanks to the golfers, event sponsor Bays Brewery and everyone who helped to make the day a great success, despite the soggy weather.

The winning team was the Dainton Boys, while the first placed individual was Chris Davey of the Bazdas Team.

The event follows the Rotary Club's annual charity golf day which was held in May at Churston Golf Club and raised £3,750.
