A huge tree which fell in Churston Ferrers was blocking a road on Monday evening after a car struck it.

A Mercedes C250 saloon crashed in to the tree on the A3022 on Dartmouth Road at 5:11pm.

The male driver was slightly injured but did not require hospital treatment, say police.

The tree, which measures 80ft in height and 30ft in circumference, came down between the A379 at Kennels Road and Lupton House, in Lupton.

Highways inspectors from Torbay Council were called to the scene and remove the tree.

A police spokesman said: "The road is completely blocked and traffic heavily delayed in the area."
