TWO members of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team are swimming from Shaldon to Brixham for charity on Sunday.

Jim Webster and Andy Turner, keen open water swimmers, estimate it will take nine to 10 hours to swim from the Ness Beach at Shaldon to Brixham Breakwater Beach.

The 10-mile route will follow the coast to Hopes Nose before heading across the bay to Brixham.

Andy, from Torquay, said: “We set off at 8.30am and anticipate the swim taking between five and seven hours non-stop.

“It’s not a relay and we will both swim the full distance.

“All donations will be split 50/50 between Cancer Research UK and DSRT Ashburton

“The choice of charities was simple as we have both lost a parent to cancer and are both members of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team at Ashburton.

“We must also say a big ‘Thank you’ to our support kayakers and to Jib Set Marine surf shop at Torquay harbour for supplying one of our safety boats.”

The final target is to raise £1,000 for each charity.

The swim is weather dependant and if conditions are not favourable the swim will be postponed or possibly diverted to finish at Paignton.
