Assistant manager Shaun Taylor made no attempt to hide his frustration at a tame display by Torquay United in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town, and he hinted that the Gulls may dip into the loan transfer market to cover for the imminent suspension of leading scorer Rene Howe.

"I'm disappointed that we got three points from the first game of the week, at Exeter, but nothing today," said Taylor, standing in for the second game for manager Martin Ling, who was unwell. "But, especially in the second half, we didn't do enough to get something from the game.

"In the first half we thought we did OK, and we were a bit disappointed to go in 1-0 down," Taylor added.

"The ball was in the air quite a lot, but we dealt with that and we made a couple of chances.

"Then, you say all you have to say at half-time, but when you go out and concede another goal after a couple of minutes, it's a setback.

"In the second half we didn't do enough. They've had some decent opportunities to go and score more goals and, when we got a goal back, it was a bit too late to rectify the situation.

"We were just a bit loose between Monday at Exeter and today."

As for Howe, Taylor said: "It was inevitable that he was going to get his tenth booking some time. Rene is out for two games now.

"It's Martin's team, and he'll be aware of the situation. We've got to look at that problem and sort it out."

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates said: "I was wondering how we managed to make it so hard for ourselves in the last six minutes. We watched Torquay at Exeter the other night, and they caused problems then. But, apart from one in the first half, I think their goal was virtually the only shot they had all game.

"That was [goalkeeper] Scott Brown's first mistake this season, so I'm not going to have a go at him," Yates added. "But we were good, and it was good to win because we needed it."
