SOUTH Devon bike racer Jonathan Tiernan-Locke will start the new season riding alongside Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Locke, a member of the Newton Abbot-based Mid-Devon Cycle Club, joins Team Sky for the 2013 season, having hit the headlines with his win on the 2012 Tour of Britain.

Specialist climber Locke, whose family home is in Plymouth, has been training with Team Sky in Mallorca during January.

Today the team announced its squads for the early-season races.

While Edvald Boasson Hagen, Bernhard Eisel, Mathew Hayman, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard, Chris Sutton, Geraint Thomas and Gabriel Rasch contest the Tour of Qatar from Sunday onwards, Sky will also be making the short trip from their training base to tackle the four-day Mallorca Challenge from Sunday to Wednesday.

Alongside Locke, Ian Boswell, Josh Edmondson and David Lopez make their Team Sky debuts with Wiggins also starting his year in familiar surroundings.

At the Volta ao Algarve from February 14 to 17, Locke will ride alongside Boswell, Edmondson, Sergio Henao, Lopez, Danny Pate, Kanstantsin Siutsou and Rigoberto Uran.
