POLICE will today continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 38-year-old man whose car plunged into a lake in South Devon.

The silver BMW 318 was being driven by a man, who was staying locally in the area, when it crashed at Slapton Ley near Kingsbridge in the early hours of Friday.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police forensic collision investigators attended the scene along with scenes of crime officers. The vehicle was almost completely submerged.

It was recovered at 1.20pm and the road fully re-opened.

A police spokesman said: "An enquiry is ongoing to establish the cause of the collision.

"A family liaison officer has been appointed but formal identification has not yet taken place.

"Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward or anyone with information."

The crash happened at the Torcross end of the nature reserve, near to the war memorial and the Start Bay Inn..

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information to assist the investigation are asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 10 of 22/08/14.
