THE next South Devon Export Network (SDEN) meeting takes place on Wednesday 21 May at 5.30pm to 8pm at the TDA’s Innovation Centre at Vantage Point in Paignton, on the site of the South Devon College.

The SDEN is a free to join network for any business involved in or considering export. It is a platform for local exporting businesses to receive and share information and knowledge about trading internationally.

The inaugural meeting which took place in November 2013 as part of the South Devon Enterprise Week was a success, with many businesses reporting that it was a useful forum and that they learnt valuable information about the exporting market. Of the 70 businesses in attendance, sectors represented included the hi-tech industry, seafood and food processing, manufacturing, media based companies and companies in the food and drink industry.

The programme for the May event includes:

A Class Act for Export

Newton Abbot based firm Scarlett Entertainment & Management is a destination entertainment specialist, providing unique and high-end entertainment acts around the world – everything from hosted exhibition events, compering and ‘after dinner’ shows in the corporate sector to party bands, live performers and burlesque dancers in the private sector. Their impressive client list includes Bahrain F1, Ferrari, Prada and Cirque du Soleil. Last month they won an award for best ‘Exporter of the Year’ in the Herald Express South Devon Business Excellence Awards 2014 and Co-Founder, Rebecca Marks will be talking about her experiences of growing the business in international markets around the world which this award recognises.

The Netherlands – it’s not Double-Dutch!

Holland is one of the UK's nearest export markets and English is widely used there as a business language. Add to this the strength of the existing bilateral trading relationship, the Netherlands can often make perfect sense as possibly one of the easiest places for South Devon based exporters sell their goods and services. Michiel van Deursen is Director of The Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) based in the Hague and will be explaining why businesses should consider this as an ideal market in which to start, or further develop export business interests.

The Digital Market Place

Selling online presents many new opportunities for businesses based in the South West. The ECommerce workshops delivered by The Digital Marketplace, in partnership with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), will show just how quickly the internet can be harnessed to generate an additional sales platform and expand markets. The Digital Marketplace offers a series of ECommerce workshops situated at venues throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Supported by local experts, attendees will explore the opportunities that selling online and selling online internationally can bring to their business.

DHL. Excellence. Simply Delivered.

DHL Express will discuss the insight they have into international trade, not only from the UK, but specifically from the South West region. They will cover the destinations businesses are currently shipping to, and which markets companies are looking to for future growth. Providing top tips on successfully shipping, navigating customs and the benefits of an Express Service, they will discuss the support available to achieve international growth, whatever size your business is and whatever you’re looking to achieve.

Organised by the TDA with support from UK Trade & Investment - the government backed organisation that helps UK based businesses to ‘internationalise’ and export goods and services effectively - this event is free of charge and sponsored by DHL. It will feature a programme of short talks on international trade related subjects from industry professionals and local exporting firms. A light buffet and refreshments will be served at the end, providing the opportunity to network and informally exchange exporting experiences with other like-minded delegates.

To cater for expected numbers, register for the South Devon Export Network on 21 May at the TDA website: www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk/networking-and-events
