STORE staff from an opticians in Teignmouth are putting their baking skills to the test to raise funds for a local community centre.
Team members at Specsavers have each baked a Christmas-themed cake and customers are encouraged to vote for their favourite, in exchange for a £1 donation to the Alice Cross Centre in the town.
The cake with the most votes will be remade and donated to the community centre for their dinner on Christmas Day.
Simon Simmonds, store director of Specsavers in Teignmouth, said: "For more than 30 years the Alice Cross Centre has provided an amazing contribution to the over 50s in Teignbridge and we wanted show our support by helping them at a time of year which can be very lonely for some of their patrons.
"The guys in store have baked some truly magnificent cakes and we hope the community centre's visitors enjoy their treat on Christmas."
The Alice Cross Centre was founded in 1978 to give Teignbridge's over 50s a place to learn new skills to help retain their independence, mobility and confidence.
The centre also provides their patrons with the chance to discuss any matters troubling them and a meeting place to prevent loneliness.
