Stop missing short putts

THERE'S nothing more frustrating than playing a hole well only to miss a simple two-footer on the green.

Good putting stems from a solid technique and having confidence but you need both of these to putt consistently well.

Follow these three simple tips and you will hole more short (and long putts).

STEP ONE: Get your eyes over the ball at address as this helps promote a straighter back and forward stroke.

STEP TWO: Position the ball forward in your stance which encourages the correct stroke and allows for the ball to start rolling along the green rather than being hit into the ground.

Remember a putter has very little loft and we need to help the ball on it's way to the hole.

STEP THREE: Start to believe that you will make putts. I know this is hard when you have missed quite a few but if you are fearing the worst when you are standing over a six foot putt then your most likely going to miss it. I often think if I am going to miss a putt I might as well miss it with a good stroke and this often helps me hole more putts.

NEXT WEEK: Hit more solid golf shots
