EQUITY finance has been announced as the topic of the next workshop in the Torbay Development Agency's Access to Finance series.
The event will take place from 10.30am to 12pm on September 6 at the Vantage Point Innovation Centre in Paignton.
In equity finance, investment funds are provided by private investors (business angels), keen to support entrepreneurs who have an attractive business proposition, in exchange for a per cent share in their company.
Building on the success of the first two events in the series, the third instalment – Access to Finance: Going for Equity Finance will focus attention specifically on angel investing and funding for high-growth companies.
South West Angel and Investor Network (SWAIN) associate and funding expert, Tim Patterson, will discuss options available to ambitious entrepreneurs to secure funding from angel investors. Tim will clarify the entire process from choosing to pursue equity investment, through to finding the right investor, and how they can be introduced to a business to secure funding.
The event is free, and is designed to introduce businesses to the realities of angel investing while dispelling the common myths often associated with this funding stream, often due to the lack of clear understanding and accessible information on the topic.
Delegates can register for the event on the Torbay Development Agency website.
Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver said: "Securing funding is always a hot topic in the business world and I am pleased that we are addressing such crucial topics in Torbay through the TDA's business support programme to help boost the local economy."
Tim Patterson said: "Equity investment offers funding that is not usually available elsewhere, and is definitely not for everyone, but for the truly committed and ambitious entrepreneurs that strive to achieve, equity finance can open up tremendous opportunities and unlock growth that is unavailable through other funding streams.
"This event will help entrepreneurs clearly understand the process and value of angel investing, so they can accurately choose whether it can be the right option in their current business situation."
Steve Parrock, TDA chief executive, said: "The past two Access to Finance have been well received by the Torbay business community. With this event we are looking to continue to increase awareness about various funding sources available to entrepreneurs in the Bay and the surrounding area to support and grow their companies and in turn strengthen the local economy."
