TORQUAY harbourside hosts a lavish Christmas By The Sea event on Saturday, with locally-based singer Tara Mathew (pictured right) topping the bill.

Christmas By The Sea is being organised to raise money for two local charities, Paignton-based Anode and The Living Room based at St Mary Magdalene church in Torquay. The project is being co-ordinated by a number of local churches.

The event starts at 1pm on Vaughan Parade with Tara Mathew performing a selection of Christmas songs.

She is also celebrating the news that one of her songs is being included on a compilation album featuring chart-toppers including Olly Murs, the Scissor Sisters and Usher.

Saturday's programme continues with music from other local performers including jazz band Meg A La Mania, The Unleashed Theatre Company and Get In The Picture, which is an opportunity for anyone to be part of a living nativity scene presented by Upton Vale Baptist Church.

Following the afternoon show there will be a chance for everyone to join together at a community carol sing-a-long starting at 4pm.
