Cycling enthusiasts are being brought together as Teignbridge gets ready to host its second Cycling Forum. Local cycle groups, retailers and community organisations are set to attend the Forum which has been organised by Teignbridge District Council. It follows on from the success of the first event in Old Forde House, Newton Abbot, in November last year. It takes place on Monday, December 3 at 5.30pm. The forum was established to promote cycling and improve the provision for cyclists in the Teignbridge area. It meets annually and is made up of representatives of a range of cycle groups, local community organisations and partners. The aim is to help shape development of future local cycle projects and priorities by bringing together organisations involved in providing cycling and cycle path provisions. The Forum is being hosted by Teignbridge District Council Leader Cllr Jeremy Christophers with guests and speakers including Devon County Council's Strategic Transport Manager Zsolt Schuller and Peter Grainger from cycling charity Sustrans. The aim is to highlight and promote the good work being done by many organisations in making it even easier for people to take up cycling as a hobby, a healthy means of transport or a sport. Cllr Christophers will update attendees on the vision for cycling in Teignbridge and will look back on cycling highlights in the last 12 months including the successful Tour of Britain which passed through the county in September. Mr Schuller and Mr Grainger will provide information on the progress made on plans for new cycle routes in the area, including the new Connect2 bridge at Town Quay, Newton Abbot and other cycling activities and events to follow. The Forum will also allow attendees to discuss opportunities for cycle events in the coming year and how interested parties can create or support their own events.
