Heartless thieves have viciously attacked and robbed a man in a wheelchair.

The victim, aged 45, had just left his home and was in Sunningdale Road, Worle, Weston super-Mare at about 10.40am on Friday, when he was approached by two men.

He was slashed in the face and the men then took his mobile phone and a quantity of cash and ran off in the direction of St Mark's Primary School and into Ebdon Road.

The mobile phone was found discarded a short time later.

Det Sgt Glyn Edwards said: "This is a particularly heinous crime in which a disabled man in a wheelchair was robbed just minutes after leaving his home.

"We are committed to tracking down the people responsible for this and I would urge anyone who knows who was involved, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of St Mark's School or Ebdon Road around the time of the incident, to call us as soon as possible."

If you can help, please call investigating officer Det Con Sarah Rizvi via the 24-hour non-emergency number 101.
