CYCLING: Plagued by injury for most of 2013, teenager Ricci Parsons gave fresh evidence of his potential when he won the Mid-Devon CC/Colin Lewis Cycles' Boxing Day Time Trial.
Parsons, 18, who rides for Mid-Devon despite living in Taunton, covered the new ten-mile course on the A385 between Dartington and South Brent in 26mins 41secs.
He was one of only five riders in the 22-strong field who beat 30 minutes – a formality on flatter courses but a challenge on the undulating road up to Marley Head.
Parsons' father and brother 'helped', by acting as marshals on a course which went down well with competitors and will almost certainly be used again next season.
In second place was Mid-Devon Junior Harry Loader in 28.01, ahead of David Bartlett (Cyclelogic) in 29.45 and further Mid-Devon riders Paul Chirgin 29.50 and Trevor Reynolds 29.55.
It was a good effort by Bartlett, who had ridden to the start from his home in Exeter.
Veteran Martyn Holmes was sixth in 30.15.
The first lady was Kerry Nadin in 34.22, while 14-year-old Hetty Summerhayes from South Brent completed her first-ever trial in 36.52.
