SKITTLES: Tippers clinch top honours as skittles finals are staged

DIVISION One champions Tippers took the honours at last weekend Torquay Skittles League finals at Boots and Laces, by picking up all three cups, going one better than last year when they only managed two out of the three.

In the Gordon Stone Challenge Cup semi-final, Fixits from Division Three give Tippers their hardest game as both teams finished level on 412 pins, Tippers winning the extra leg by 84-70.

Mike Endacott (Fixits) 63 and Adrian Hewings (Tippers) 63 top scored.

The other semi-final saw second division PO Lambs defeat first division Babbacombe CC A by 411 pins to 403, Roy Neck (P O Lambs) 66 and Richard Tribe (Babbacombe) 59 top scorers.

In the final Tippers first leg of 86 saw them go 28 pins in front to eventually win by 426 pins to 394 with Colin Balment top scoring for Tippers with 68 while Phil Germon hit 66 for Lambs.

In the Roy Perry Trophy, the semi finals saw second division champions Babbacombe CC C knock out first division Barton Blues by 410-398 with Andy Lott (Babbacombe) 58 and Dave Bowden (Barton) 57 top scoring.

The other semi final was an all first division affair between Torquay Reds and Tippers with Tippers coming out on top by 419-397, Janet Bastow top scoring for Reds with 59 and Alan Hewings hitting 59 for Tippers.

In the final Tippers were 30 pins up after two legs and ran out winners by 437-409, Steve Baker hit 61 for Babbacombe and Colin Balment's 69 for Tippers earned him the Sponsors trophy for the highest score of the day.

In the Herald Express Cup, the first semi-final was a rerun of the challenge cup as PO Lambs once again proved just too strong for Babbacombe CC A, winning by 414-411 with Steve Spicer (Lambs) 62 and Jimmy Millington (Babbacombe) 61 top scoring.

Tippers once again were facing third division opponents, this time Yo-Yo's who they overcame by 436-407 with Chris Stolworthy hitting 68 for the winners and Sara Ellis and Chris Labdon both hitting 58 for Yo-Yo's.

The final once again saw Tippers facing PO Lambs and Tippers despite going 14 pins down on the first leg eventually ran out winners by 421-386.

Alan Hewings rounding of the evening with a triple flopper '27' spare for Tippers – the only one of the season.

Hewings finished with 68 for Tippers while Mikey Penlington hit 55 for Lambs.
