TorbayMP Adrian Sanders will be in Brussels on March 6th to meet withSouth West MEP Graham Watson and key decision makers, urging for better supportfor areas like Torbay from the EU Budget, which is currently being determinedby the European Parliament.
Theproposed EU Budget contains new funding for 'transition zones' which are areassuch as Devon and Torbay that have weak economies compared to the rest of theEU. The funding, which could be worth hundreds of millions of pounds,could be used to invest in infrastructure and new job opportunities.
Adrianwill meet with MEPs influential in the budget making process, such as GeorgeLyon and Ivailo Kalfin, along with Commissioner Lewandowski, who is overseeingthe EU budget process for the EU Commission.
AdrianSanders commented: "That Torbay and Devon will benefit from this newfunding is good news. We now need to make sure that not only is the fundas large as possible for the local area but that decisions on how it is spentare made locally and not by central Government ."
