DRIVERS using the Torbay Ring Road are being warned to expect diversions and delays as repairs begin to a damaged section of crash barrier.
The damage was caused in an accident on Saturday.
Around 90 metres of barrier in the vicinity of the overbridge to Edginswell Lane was damaged.
Bags of sand are currently being used as a temporary barrier and work will start on Thursday to install 90 metres of more substantial, temporary barrier.
Torbay Council expects the work to be completed within one to two days, and will be carried out by South West Highways on behalf of Torbay Council.
During the course of the works, a one-way traffic system will be in operation on Hamelin Way.
Traffic heading South from Kerswell Gardens (towards Paignton) will continue to use Hamelin Way, while traffic heading North towards Kerswell Gardens will turn right at Gallows Gate roundabout and be diverted via Marldon Road, Shiphay Avenue, Shiphay Lane, Newton Road and Riviera Way.
Work will not begin until 9.30am, to avoid the morning rush hour traffic. However, some delays will be inevitable.
A Torbay council spokesman said: "It is unfortunate that these works will clash with the carriageway resurfacing currently being undertaken at Torre Station.
"However, we have a responsibility to make the overbridge safe without delay.
"The council regrets this potential delay to traffic, but the works are essential to ensure public safety and need to be completed prior to the school traffic returning next week.
"We would advise any drivers who are able to avoid these areas on Thursday to use alternative routes if possible."
