THE journey is over for Torbay Area IBA after they were knocked out of this year's Denny Cup by Moonfleet 2000 on Saturday.
The Oldway-based team lost their fourth-round tie by 82-89 against their Weymouth opponents, who now go on to face Desborough in the quarter-finals.
Torbay won only one of the four rinks, with Derrick Singleton's quartet winning 27-15 against Warren Smith at Oldway, but the remaining results going the way of the Dorset side.
Club president Graham Warren, who played on one of the home rinks, said the 18-23 defeat for his quartet proved costly.
He said the team would have 'walked it' had they been able to summon up the same form which helped them overcome rivals Torquay United in their previous rounds.
"Derrick [Singleton]'s rink had a good game again – but our rink didn't perform as we should of," said Warren.
"They [Moonfleet] were there for the taking."
Moonfleet's margin of victory could have been wider had several of the Torbay rinks not picked up shots on the final ends.
Warren explained: "Alan Bowden lost by one after dropping a three on the last end, but Roy Johnson picked up a five on the 21st end and Derrick [Singleton] also picked up a five on the 20th end.
"There was a bit more of a gap between the teams near the end."
"We certainly didn't bowl as a rink on our rink, and were below par," he added.
"There were quite a few supporters at Oldway, which was great.
"We should have had them to be honest, but we just didn't do it on the day.
"If we had bowled as well as we had bowled against Torquay we would have walked it."
Meanwhile, John Williamson and Ton Berry were the winners of the men's drawn pairs competition at Torbay last weekend.
Williamson and Berry topped their group of four in the round-robin competition with a score of five points and plus-11 shots.
Greg Dowell and Vic Vasey were runners-up with five points and four shots, while Roy Johnson and Cyril Blackler came third with four points and plus-32 shots.
This weekend, Torbay A are taking on Plymouth A in the inter-club league, while Torbay B face Torquay B.
On Sunday, Torbay meet South Hams in the County Trophy, while Torquay are the opponents in the Top Club on Monday.
