A VIBRANT industry with visitor numbers on the up deserves recognition according to the chairman of the English Riviera Tourism Company. Chris Hart, who is also managing director of Wollen Michelmore, the headline sponsor of the tourism awards event, said the boost and pride businesses receive from such accolades is immeasurable.
"Even though these awards are only in their second year, it is clear from the number of applications, the support for the awards evening, and the general industry and public interest, that the awards have already become an established annual event," he said.
"The success of our tourism industry is critical to the economy of South Devon and these awards demonstrate the strength in depth of our vibrant industry across our region, where visitor numbers are on the rise and business optimism is high and the research is demonstrating that we are performing better than most areas of the South West.
"These awards are an opportunity to celebrate those businesses that offer the highest quality service and visitor experience, and reflect the drive, creativity and commitment of the many individuals who are determined to ensure that a standard of excellence exists within their businesses."
Mr Hart said Wollen Michelmore had seen first hand the power of these types of awards after the business was shortlisted and won a variety of awards during the past year.
He said: " The enormous sense of pride in being part of an award winning business is immeasurable.
"I'd like to congratulate all of the nominees shortlisted for the awards – you are all winners in having got this far, and I hope you all enjoy this very special celebration of our tourism and hospitality industry."
