VOLUNTEERS from the Ashburton branch of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue team have been taking part in a Vertical Ten Tors Challenge.
They climbed the combined height of 10 Dartmoor Tors on a nine metre indoor climbing wall at the Dart Rock Climbing Centre at Buckfastleigh.
The challenge was devised to raise much needed funds for the team to help continue to provide vital search and rescue services for the lost, missing and injured across Dartmoor, Devon and sometimes further afield across the southwest.
A team spokesman said: "I am delighted with how successful the day has been. It looks like we will raise over £2,000 for team funds which was more than double what I hoped. This will go along way towards achieving our £15,000 operational costs each year that are raised almost entirely by fundraising.
“I would like to thank all the family and friends for sponsoring my colleagues and me in this undertaking, my friends/team mates for supporting this idea and taking part, and finally a big thank you to Dart Rock Climbing Centre for their support for the event from its very start.”
