Van severely damaged in 'deliberate' Torquay blaze

A LARGE box van was destroyed last night in the latest in a spate of deliberate vehicle fires in Torquay.

The alarm was raised at 8.20pm to the van on fire in Petitor Mews, St Marychurch.

Two fire appliances from Torquay were sent to the scene.

The van was well alight when they arrived and they used two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one compressed air foam device in putting the fire out.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The van was severely damaged by the fire. The cause was deliberate."

A few minutes later, Torquay firefighters were called to Winchester Avenue in Hele where a car was well alight in the roadway.

They used two hosereel jets to extinguish the fire, which is this case was said to be accidental.
