AROUND two tonnes of old or broken electrical equipment was handed in by South Hams businesses at a waste amnesty in Totnes.
Televisions, computers, monitors, printers and even a foot spa were among the items recycled at the event organised by South Hams District Council and WasteCare at the council's offices at Follaton House, Totnes.
Businesses can sometimes end up paying to off-load electrical waste but the amnesty was a chance for local firms to get rid of the stuff for free.
One of the local companies taking advantage of the waste amnesty was Totnes Television and Electrical.
Chris Hatch from the firm said: "This is a fantastic idea and particularly helpful for a business like ours. Customers are always bringing in items for repair but that is not always possible so we tend to accumulate broken TVs and other electrical appliances. To have a day where we can clear the decks in one go is very useful indeed."
