A TORQUAY driver has taken control in three major competitions in the British Rally Championship season.
19-year-old Chris Wheeler, a former member of Torbay Motor Club, is now half way through the season and is currently leading the Stars of the Future, RC2 and RC3 classes.
In addition the young driver is competing in the Fiesta Sport Trophy with co-driver Yan Griffiths.
So far this year, Chris has competed in the Pirelli, Jim Clark, and Scottish rallies.
These events have all taken place in Scotland with the next trip for the team being to Northern Ireland on August 23.
This will present two point scoring opportunities in one weekend, with thousands of spectators expected.
With three rallies remaining, Wheeler is in a prime position to end the season as British Champion in all three events.
He said: "This year has been a massive step for us.
"Now we are competing at the highest level in the UK, with big rallies, long stages and more press exposure.
"At the beginning of the season we were looking to build experience and take it rally by rally.
"We were certainly not expecting this in the first year."
However, Wheeler is remaining realistic about his chances, saying: "It's going to be hard to still be at the top of all three events by the end of the year.
"If we keep building up points and stick to our plans then fingers crossed we will manage it.
"We're looking to get to the very top in rallying which would be the World Rallying Championship.
"My dream has always been to make it to the WRC, and hopefully that's something which will happen in the next five years."
