TWO Teign Housing employees are swimming 10 kilometres to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance.

Ian Jones and Josh Lewis are taking on the Openwater Swimming Society's annual River Dart 10k swim on Saturday.

They will set off from the Dart Totnes Rowing Club at Steamer Quay Road, Totnes, and swim down stream finishing at The Ferryboat Inn, Dittisham.

The duo have been training for six months and are ready for what lies ahead.

Ian, 40, is the social housing landlord's business systems manager, and Josh, 27, works as a senior neighbourhood adviser.

Both are keen triathletes and completed the cycling and running aspects of the Six-Month Triathlon in March when they cycled 80 miles and ran seven miles, raising £680 for Sport Relief.

This time they are raising funds for the air ambulance in memory of ex-Teign Housing customer services manager Sue Bowden who died of cancer last year.

I hope they're not expecting to take part next Saturday, because they'll have missed it! The event took place last Saturday (September 22nd) with over 600 entrants. The fastest time was just over 2 hours, which is over 3 mph average for the whole course. Swimmers not only had to complete the course but had to battle with hypothermia induced by the cold water and strong cold easterly wind, floating logs and debris. I take my hat off to them.
