GULLS boss Paul Buckle has revealed that transfer-listed midfielder Nicky Wroe turned down the chance to leave Torquay United before last week's loan transfer window closed.
And he's glad that he did.
League Two rivals Aldershot are believed to be the club which inquired about Wroe, 25.
"I asked Nicky if he wanted to go or stay, and he said 'I want to stay'," said Buckle.
Two days before last Thursday's loan deadline, former skipper Wroe had scored two spectacular goals in the 3-1 away victory over Wycombe Wanderers.
It was midway through October when Buckle placed former Barnsley and York player Wroe on the list – and handed the captaincy to Lee Mansell.
Wroe was not involved for three games against Crewe, Bury and Gillingham.
But he then got back into the side for a 3-1 home win over Morecambe on October 30, and he's held his place for the last seven matches.
"I think sometimes players can play a bit better in a spot of adversity," said Buckle.
"Nicky is still on the list, but he has reacted really well.
"And as long as he keeps playing well, he knows he'll have a great chance of staying in the side."
