It has been revealed that Teignmouth’s Luke Friend will sing The Police classic Every Breath You Take on this weekend’s The X Factor.

The 17 year old budding star has made it through to the live shows, which start tomorrow night (Saturday).

He’ll battle it out against 11 other acts in the singing competition, which this week has an 80s theme.

“It’s now dawning me that I’ll be on live TV tomorrow night, but I’m excited,” he told the Herald Express.

“I chose the song and it will be a slightly different version, with a twist of Folk.

“Despite thinking about tomorrow, I think I’ll sleep well tonight as I’m so tired, we’ve been in the studio from 6am.

“I’m also so excited to be able to see Cher and Ellie Goulding who are on the show this weekend, it’s going to be incredible.”

The Coombeshead Academy student is enjoying having the support of his mentor Louis Walsh.

“He’s been wicked. He’s really honest with us all and he’s been really helpful,” said Luke.

Luke’s Twitter followers and popularity is growing every day.

“I’ve been in the studio a lot so I have not experienced the fame thing that goes with The X Factor yet, but I always want to remain the same old Luke.

“My Twitter followers went up by 1,000 yesterday after appearing on Daybreak and This Morning and now have more than 25,000 people following me.”

Luke is living the high life in a £5m mansion reportedly previously owned by Lionel Richie.

“We’re all having a great time and we’ve been playing pranks on some of the other contestants,” he said.

“We’ve stacked toilet rolls behind the doors, so they all fall over when the walk through,” he joked.

“I’ve bonded with Nicholas and Rough Copy as they are so lively. I’m pretty laid back, but we all come together it’s crazy.”

Tune in to see and vote for Luke from 8pm tomorrow.
