FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze in a farm building on the outskirts of Paignton on Wednesday night.

Two hundred and fifty round bales of hay were said to be on fire at Higher Blagdon Farm.

The building, in countryside between Collaton St Mary, Blagdon and Marldon, was well alight.

Flames could be seen for miles and smoke rose high into the sky.

The alarm was raised at 5.30pm and two fire engines from Paignton and a water carrier from Torquay were sent to the scene.

Firefighters were using water jets to cool other nearby buildings.

Crews were still at the scene at midnight.

I just went out the back of my house and looked as we get a really good view of Blagdon from our back garden, it is still well alight. Lots of blue lights too. Hope they get it under control quickly and nobody is hurt.
