A MAN has been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision which has seen one of the South West's major roads closed in both directions.

Police say they were called to the Redruth stretch of the A30 at just after 3.30pm following the collision.

The air ambulance attended and took a man, who is described as suffering from serious head injuries, to Treliske hospital.

The scene has been closed to traffic from both directions on the A30 and diversions put in place.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area for the time being and the road is expected to be closed for around five hours.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact police via email on 101@dc.police.uk or by telephone on 101, quoting log 0421 of 07/10/16.
